When the weather drops to minus three, the fits and the layers heat up
For most dudes, winter is one of the trickiest menswear seasons of the entire year. But for Emily Ratajkowski? Ah, no biggie. Because as the cold snap hits hard, the supermodel-activist-actor has taken a deep dive into the eternal winter aesthetic: the cosy boy.
You know the cosy boy. It’s the swaddled up, puffer jacketed comfort king kickstarted by brands like Aimé Leon Dore and perpetuated by famous guys like Adam Sandler. And nowhere is the look more useful than in New York City where the winters are cruel and the fits are advanced. Which is where Ratajkowski stepped out in a masterclass of multi-layering.
She rocked a purple hoodie from the Billionaire Boys Club x Timberland collab that dropped at the end of 2022, and the Save The Trees baseball cap by Reformed Vintage. She also jumped into some wide-leg trousers and a pair of Reebok Premier Road Moderns in ‘Tonal Silver’ that was recently voted as one of the best sneakers of 2023. All of that, and then a huge red puffer, which cements her as the crown kween of cosy. And if you thought we’d reached peak puffer, please may we direct you to the style gods of Milan and Paris Fashion Week – there were dozens of puffer jackets on the streets, all of them at varying points on the wavy scale, too.
Sure, it looks like a typical streetwear coded fit. But every single piece has been strategically worn with both the cold and the warmth in mind. It’s layered just enough to keep all the heat in, but everything is slightly oversized so it doesn’t restrict airflow. It’s also nice and vibrant, which is perfect for those particularly dull, grey mornings in any freezing city. Plus, in these cold and frigid times, it’s nice to feel all swaddled like a little grail baby.
All hail Ratajkowski: empress of the down fill, and cosy boy evangelist.
